Labor Day morning in Woodland Hills took a frightening turn when two men detailing a homeowner’s vehicle were robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. The incident, captured on home surveillance cameras, unfolded just before 11:30 a.m. in an affluent neighborhood where families were outside enjoying the holiday.
According to the homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, the neighborhood was unusually active at the time. “All the neighbors are home, walking around the neighborhood, outside in the yard, so not exactly the time you would expect something like this to happen,” he said.
The Robbery Unfolds
Security footage shows a newer-model, light-gray Honda Accord slowly passing the homeowner’s driveway where the men were working. Minutes later, the vehicle circled back. Three suspects then ran up the driveway, two of them brandishing handguns. The startled workers immediately raised their hands as the robbers demanded their belongings.
Despite the aggressive nature of the crime, the suspects only made off with a watch and a pocketknife before fleeing back to their vehicle. Police later reported the car was seen speeding away northbound on Don Pio Drive with California license plate 7S0J247.
A Neighborhood on Edge
The two victims, terrified that the gunmen might return, ran to the homeowner’s front door and pounded frantically while shouting that men with guns were outside. The homeowner quickly activated his alarm system and called police.
Though unharmed, the incident left both the victims and the homeowner shaken. “I really feel bad that in my driveway something like this happened to them,” he explained. “It was a bit traumatizing for all of us and actually made me realize that I don’t necessarily want to live in Woodland Hills anymore.”
Neighbors later provided surveillance footage that revealed other homes in the area had also been targeted recently, heightening community concerns about safety.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Officers responded to the scene, but the suspects had already fled. Authorities are continuing their search for the trio and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The homeowner expressed his hope that the suspects are caught soon, underscoring just how dangerous the situation could have been. “These kids that they pulled the guns on, if they would’ve done the wrong move or freaked out, they could’ve gotten killed or shot,” he said.
Community Impact
While no injuries were reported and most valuables were secured in a locked vehicle, the brazen robbery has left lasting unease in the neighborhood. What began as a quiet holiday morning quickly turned into a sobering reminder that crime can strike even in broad daylight, and even in areas where residents feel secure. Source: KTLA
