Burglars Break Into LA Apartment While Resident Is Inside; Van Nuys Home Also Hit

A burglary in Los Angeles took a frightening turn Friday night when two suspects allegedly broke into an apartment while a resident was still inside.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to an apartment building in the 4800 block of Oakwood Avenue in the Larchmont neighborhood at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, September 18.

Police said the resident was inside the apartment when two men suddenly entered. After seeing the resident, the suspects fled the apartment.

The resident was not physically injured, and police said there was no physical contact between the suspects and the resident. The burglars reportedly took several items before leaving the area. The exact property stolen had not been determined at the time of the report.

The suspects remained at large as the investigation continued.

Separate Burglary Reported in Van Nuys

That same evening, another residential burglary was reported in Van Nuys.

LAPD said two men dressed in black broke into a home in the 7300 block of Ranchito Avenue shortly before 9:30 p.m. The homeowners were not at the residence when the break-in occurred.

A neighbor with a key allowed officers to enter the home, where police determined that several items had been stolen.

The suspects reportedly left the area in a white SUV. No injuries were reported in the Van Nuys incident.

Police Investigating Whether Incidents Are Connected

Authorities have not determined whether the two burglaries are related.

Both investigations remain ongoing, and the suspects in each incident had not been located according to the initial report.

The Larchmont burglary is particularly notable because the resident was inside the apartment when the suspects entered, creating a situation that could have escalated beyond a property crime. While no physical injuries were reported, the incident highlights the unpredictable nature of residential break-ins when occupants are present.

Police continue to investigate both cases and determine who was responsible for the burglaries.
