Home invasion, robbery on Columbus East Side leaves 46-year-old man dead

A home invasion turned deadly early Wednesday on Columbus' East Side.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Columbus police were called to a home on the 1200 block of Elderwood Avenue, located off of East Livingston Avenue. The residents in the home reported there was an attempted robbery and home invasion taking place.

Columbus police said that when officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Shermon Lindsey Jr., who lived at the home, with a gunshot wound. Another adult inside the home was injured as well, but was not shot.

Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The other adult was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then released.

Two other people inside the home at the time of the shooting, one of them a juvenile, were not injured, police said.

City homicide detectives said at least two suspects were involved in the home invasion and robbery. After shooting Lindsey and assaulting the second adult, they left the home.

Detectives have not publicly identified any suspects in the case and on Thursday reported no updates on the case.
