Man 'kicked down door' and shot victim in chest during home invasion


URBANA, Ill. (WCCU) — The Urbana Police Department is investigating a home invasion that took place on Saturday.

Police say at 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, Urbana Police Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Colorado to investigate a home invasion and shooting incident.

According to reports, an unknown male offender kicked in the door to a residence and shot one person inside.

Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old male from Urbana who had been shot four times in the leg and once in the chest.


Urbana officers provided immediate medical assistance to the victim before he was taken to a medical facility for additional treatment. The victim is expected to survive.

Police say the victim, who was visiting a friend at the time of the shooting, was inside an apartment when the incident occurred.

The investigation is ongoing and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, Urbana police believe that the shooting was not a random act. The offender is believed to have fled the scene in a dark sedan.
