Thieves Cut Into Roof, Steal Gold from Century-Old Jewelry Franchise in Manhattan Beach

Jewelry store burglary investigation news headline

In a bold overnight burglary, thieves broke into the Manhattan Beach location of South Bay Gold, a century-old jewelry franchise, by cutting a hole directly through the store’s roof.

The incident occurred in the early hours of September 1, between midnight and 4 a.m., according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department. An unknown number of suspects managed to gain entry to the store, located at 2413 N. Sepulveda Blvd., and made off with gold and other valuables.

Workers from a neighboring business first discovered the hole in the roof and alerted both police and store owners. As of Friday morning, authorities said the total value of the stolen items was still being assessed.

For South Bay Gold, which has operated locations in Redondo Beach and Torrance in addition to Manhattan Beach, the crime marks an unprecedented blow. One of the owners, visibly shaken, told reporters that this was the first time in the franchise’s history—spanning over 100 years—that their stores have ever been burglarized in such a way.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department is actively investigating and has asked for the community’s help. Local residents and business owners with security cameras or surveillance systems are encouraged to review any footage from the night of September 1. Authorities are particularly interested in spotting unfamiliar individuals or vehicles in the area during those hours.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Connor Hedde at 310-502-5121.
