Mayor Karen Bass Orders LAPD Crackdown as San Fernando Valley Burglary Surge Sparks Concern

Residents across Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley are increasingly on edge following a recent surge in residential burglaries, prompting city leadership to direct additional law enforcement resources into affected neighborhoods.

On Friday, Mayor Karen Bass announced that the Los Angeles Police Department has been instructed to increase patrols and visibility along Ventura Boulevard, a corridor that has seen multiple break-ins in a short span of time. The move comes after a series of reported residential burglaries that have left communities frustrated and concerned about safety inside their own homes.

“The safety of every Angeleno is my number one priority,” Mayor Bass said in a statement. “The city has zero tolerance for these recent burglaries. I’ve directed the LAPD to strategically deploy resources along Ventura Boulevard and to continue making this area a priority by holding these criminals accountable.”

According to the mayor’s office, the expanded public safety strategy includes increased patrols from LAPD officers, detectives, and specialized units, as well as the use of high-visibility police vehicles in targeted areas. Mobile license plate reader technology will also be deployed in higher-risk zones to assist in identifying potential suspects and vehicles linked to burglary activity.

Additional measures include community engagement by senior lead officers, weekly meetings between detectives to track burglary trends, and coordination with specialized investigative divisions such as the Commercial Crimes Division and Robbery Homicide Division. Air support will also be used to enhance patrol visibility and deterrence.

The announcement follows a particularly active week for law enforcement in the Valley. The most recent reported incident occurred Friday evening in Porter Ranch, where a “hot prowl” burglary was reported on the 11900 block of Doral Avenue at approximately 8:10 p.m. In that case, residents were reportedly home when a suspect was discovered inside the residence. The individual fled before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.

Authorities confirmed that this incident marked at least the seventh reported burglary in the San Fernando Valley within roughly one week. While investigations remain ongoing, police have not yet confirmed whether any of the cases are connected.

As the LAPD increases its presence in the area, residents continue to voice concern over the frequency and boldness of recent break-ins, particularly those occurring while homes are occupied. Law enforcement officials say efforts are now focused on identifying patterns, disrupting potential burglary crews, and preventing further incidents as investigations continue.
