Attempted Break-In in Porter Ranch Highlights Ongoing Burglary Concerns Across San Fernando Valley

An attempted burglary in the Porter Ranch neighborhood of Los Angeles ended with two arrests Wednesday night, adding to a growing list of similar incidents that have unsettled residents across the San Fernando Valley.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers responded to a call around 9:10 p.m. reporting a burglary in progress at a home on the 12200 block of Beaufait Avenue. The situation unfolded when one of the suspects allegedly tried to open the home’s back door. The attempt was interrupted after the homeowner’s dog began barking, prompting both suspects to flee the scene before gaining entry.

Police arrived shortly after and confirmed with the homeowner that no one had entered the residence and nothing had been stolen. A search of the surrounding area followed, aided by an LAPD helicopter equipped with infrared technology. Officers ultimately located two suspects—believed to be teenagers—hiding nearby. Both were taken into custody and are expected to be booked on charges of trespassing and attempted burglary.

Aerial footage from the scene showed officers combing through bushes where the suspects were found, along with what appeared to be discarded clothing, suggesting an attempt to evade detection.

While no injuries or losses were reported in this case, the incident reflects a broader pattern that has been emerging across the San Fernando Valley since early April. More than a dozen burglaries and attempted break-ins have been reported in neighborhoods including Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Valley Glen, and Studio City.

City officials have acknowledged the uptick in crime. Karen Bass and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell have both addressed community concerns, outlining plans to increase patrol presence and organize neighborhood meetings aimed at improving awareness and prevention.
