Pair of San Fernando Valley Homes Targeted in Late-Night Burglaries

Two San Fernando Valley homes were targeted in separate late-night burglaries Friday, Aug. 7, prompting responses from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The first incident was reported around 10:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of Rhodes Avenue in Studio City. According to an LAPD spokesperson, the residents were not home when a neighbor heard the property's alarms and contacted police.

A house manager also called police shortly afterward, reporting that multiple suspects were at the residence. By the time officers arrived, however, the suspects had already fled.

Preliminary reports indicated that the residents were out of the country at the time and were able to watch the incident unfold through their home's security cameras. It was not immediately clear whether anything was stolen.

Second burglary reported in Encino

Approximately 40 minutes later, at 11:07 p.m., LAPD officers responded to another burglary call, this time in the 4900 block of Edgerton Avenue in Encino, roughly seven miles from the Studio City residence.

The incident was described as a "hot prowl" burglary, meaning people were believed to be inside the home when the suspects entered.

According to police, the caller reported that three suspects wearing ski masks had entered the residence. Unconfirmed reports from the scene indicated that a mother and two children were inside and that the mother confronted the intruders.

LAPD officers, including an airship, responded to the scene. As with the earlier Studio City incident, the suspects had fled before police arrived.

Authorities had not determined whether anything was taken from either residence as of early Saturday morning.

Previous burglary activity on the same Encino street

The Encino incident also occurred on a street that has been targeted in previous burglaries.

In July 2024, a multi-million-dollar home on Edgerton Avenue was reportedly burglarized twice within the same week. The repeated incidents drew attention to the vulnerability of residences in the area.

As of Saturday morning, authorities had not confirmed whether Friday night's two burglaries were connected. No additional details about the suspects or any stolen property had been released.

The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.
