Late Monday night, a home registered to television personality Teddi Mellencamp was targeted in one of two break-ins reported in Encino—just hours after a community meeting was held to address rising crime in the neighborhood.
Los Angeles police responded around 10 p.m. on July 21 to a residence off Hayvenhurst Avenue. Edwin Arroyave, Mellencamp’s estranged husband and one of the homeowners, stated that he and his four children were home at the time of the break-in. According to Arroyave, three masked intruders jumped the fence and broke in through a side door. The home's alarm system was triggered, and the suspects fled the scene within 20 seconds, leaving in a black BMW before officers arrived.
Roughly ten minutes earlier, another break-in occurred at a home about two miles away on Enfield Avenue. No one was present during that incident, and authorities have not confirmed whether anything was stolen.
The back-to-back burglaries came just hours after concerned residents packed a community meeting with LAPD officers and a district attorney to demand action on what many say has become a chronic threat to safety in the San Fernando Valley. The meeting followed the recent tragic double murder of music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband during a home invasion—an incident that has further heightened anxieties in the area.
“It gets scary, right, because I think that’s where it escalates, and you never know what could happen,” said Arroyave in a post-incident interview. “I had a friend/acquaintance that ended up dead because it escalated, and not too far from here, either.”
Teddi Mellencamp, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 melanoma and filed for divorce from Arroyave in 2024. The couple's home is one of several in Encino linked to high-profile figures that have been targeted in recent years. Fellow RHOBH cast members Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley were also victims of burglaries at their Encino properties in 2017 and 2021, respectively.
In the wake of these latest incidents, residents continue to call for increased security, greater police presence, and meaningful consequences for perpetrators. Many are expressing frustration that even heightened awareness and community dialogue have yet to deter the string of home invasions sweeping the neighborhood.
As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the recent break-ins.
