North Hollywood Homeowner Reports Shooting During Alleged Burglary

Alleged home intruder possibly shot during break-in news headline

A tense situation unfolded Friday morning in North Hollywood when a resident claimed he shot an intruder who was attempting to break into his apartment.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded around 10 a.m. to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on the 12800 block of Oxnard Street. The tenant told officers he heard noises coming from his kitchen and, upon investigation, discovered a man attempting to enter through a window.

The resident said he warned the alleged burglar that he was home and armed, but when the man did not leave, he retrieved a firearm and fired a shot. The homeowner told police he struck the suspect once in the chest.

However, when officers searched the scene, they found no evidence of a gunshot wound. A police dog was also brought in but was unable to locate any blood trail in the area. Despite this, the tenant maintained his belief that the intruder had been hit.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man wearing a black mask and black sweater. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing as police work to confirm details of the alleged shooting and burglary.
