Trespasser Stopped at Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff’s Malibu Property

A security incident at the Malibu home of former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, drew a law enforcement response Friday night after a woman allegedly entered the property.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a spokesperson for Harris, security personnel stopped the individual before she reached the residence. Harris and Emhoff were not at the property at the time of the incident.

Security Personnel Intervene

The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, September 11, when Harris' security personnel contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after a woman entered the Malibu property.

Sheriff's deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills station responded to the scene. The woman, whose identity has not been publicly released, ultimately agreed to leave the property voluntarily and was not arrested.

Harris spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said security personnel stopped the individual before she reached the home and that Harris and Emhoff were away at the time.

The response appears to have prevented the situation from escalating further, with deputies later confirming that additional patrols would be conducted around the property.

Conflicting Details About How Far the Woman Went

Initial reports contained different descriptions of how far the woman had made it onto the property.

Some early reporting indicated that the woman had reached the front door of the residence. Harris' spokesperson later disputed that detail, saying the individual was stopped before reaching the home itself. The Los Angeles Times likewise reported that the individual was stopped after entering the property but before reaching the residence.

That distinction is significant because the incident appears to have been stopped at the property level rather than after someone had entered the actual residence.

Increased Patrols Following the Incident

Following the incident, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it would increase patrols around the property.

The Malibu incident comes amid previous attention surrounding security at Harris' residences. In January 2025, two people were detained at Harris and Emhoff's former Brentwood home during curfew hours imposed amid the Palisades and Eaton wildfires. No arrests were made in that incident because authorities said they found no evidence of a crime.

Harris and Emhoff purchased their Malibu property within the last year for more than $8 million, according to previous reporting.

While Friday night's incident ended without an arrest or reported injuries, it demonstrates how quickly an unauthorized person can become a security concern when they cross onto private residential property.

In this case, on-site security personnel identified and stopped the individual before she reached the residence, while law enforcement responded shortly afterward. The incident remains a trespassing matter, and authorities have not publicly indicated that a more serious crime occurred.
