Tragedy in Encino: “American Idol” Music Supervisor and Husband Killed in Double Homicide at Home

Crime scene from `American Idol` boss husband double homicide at home

The Los Angeles neighborhood of Encino is reeling after the shocking discovery of a double homicide inside a $4.5 million residence that belonged to longtime “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, musician Thomas Deluca.

The couple, both 70 years old, were found dead in their home following a welfare check conducted Monday afternoon after they hadn’t been heard from in several days. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, both victims had sustained gunshot wounds to the head in what authorities are calling a suspected execution-style double murder.

Kaye, known for her 15-season tenure on American Idol and award-winning work in television music supervision, was found in the pantry. Deluca was discovered in the bathroom. Investigators also noted a trail of blood in the entryway and a broken window—believed to be the intruder's point of entry.

Curiously, the home, which had once belonged to the late rapper Juice WRLD, was not ransacked, suggesting robbery may not have been the motive. Surveillance footage has not yet led to any suspect identification, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

The LAPD had previously responded to a 911 call from a neighbor on the prior Thursday after someone was spotted hopping the couple’s fence. At that time, no signs of forced entry or criminal activity were found.

This incident marks yet another unsettling event in what some Encino residents describe as a surge of break-ins and burglaries plaguing the area. Just weeks ago, actor Anthony Anderson's home was targeted during a charity event, and a nearby jewelry store was hit in a heist involving blowtorches used to breach a safe.

Despite the Kaye-Deluca residence being one of the most fortified properties on the block—surrounded by tall walls lined with security spikes—the violent intrusion underscores growing concerns about safety in affluent, secluded neighborhoods.

Robin Kaye’s contributions to television music—spanning Lip Sync BattleMiss USA, and Miss Universe—leave a legacy in the entertainment world. But her and her husband’s tragic end now leaves a neighborhood, and an industry, mourning a loss that feels both personal and senseless.

As authorities continue to investigate, neighbors remain on edge, grappling with the horror of such violence striking so close to home.
