Neighbors frustrated by string of burglaries in Westchester

In recent weeks, Westchester residents have been gripped by anxiety following a series of brazen home break-ins. On Wednesday alone, two such incidents were reported, leaving the community questioning when this crime wave will end.

Security footage from an unoccupied home on McConnell Avenue revealed three masked and gloved individuals, dressed in hoodies, sprinting through the yard. One suspect was seen carrying a bag, which was later discovered abandoned in a nearby bush. A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, found the bag while walking his dog. Inside were bear spray and a signal jammer, tools presumably used to disable WiFi systems during the break-ins.

"I walk by this area all the time and never saw anything like that before," the neighbor said, recounting the moment his dog sniffed out the suspicious backpack.

Witnesses reported that the suspects communicated via radios before fleeing the scene in a getaway car, leaving a van with open doors on the street. This incident mirrors a similar break-in attempt last month, where intruders jumped a fence, snuck around back, and kicked in a door.

Councilmember Traci Park addressed the alarming rise in crime within District 11, stating, "Brazen thieves have taken over the city, making families feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods and homes. Voters have a chance this fall to make a difference and end these failed social experiments."

The crime wave isn't new to Westchester. In January, after 75 home break-ins were reported within three months, the LAPD held a community meeting to address the situation. Residents claim the situation has only worsened since then.

Paul, a concerned resident, voiced the community's growing unease: "I’m hearing about more and more of this happening."

As of now, no arrests have been made, and it remains unclear whether any valuables were taken during the break-ins. In light of these events, security experts advise residents to consider installing hard-wired security systems to counteract the effectiveness of WiFi jammers.

Westchester's ongoing crime wave serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and robust security measures. As the community grapples with these unsettling developments, many hope for a swift resolution and a return to peace in their neighborhoods.
