A late-night burglary in Westwood followed by an attempted break-in in Sherman Oaks has investigators searching for two suspects believed to be connected, as police continue to respond to a recent string of residential crimes across Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were dispatched just after midnight to a home on Westholme Avenue in Westwood following reports of a burglary in progress. By the time authorities arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene. Witnesses described seeing two men dressed in dark clothing running from the property, with one neighbor recalling loud voices shouting, “go, go, go,” as they made their escape.
Police say the suspects fled in a white sedan, leaving behind a designer tote bag outside the residence. The home had reportedly been ransacked, with jewelry and high-end handbags among the items stolen.
Roughly an hour later, officers responded to a second incident nearly nine miles away in Sherman Oaks, where two individuals matching similar descriptions attempted to break into a home on Noble Avenue. In this case, the suspects—reportedly wearing black hoodies—were unsuccessful in gaining entry and fled before police arrived.
The back-to-back incidents come amid a broader pattern of burglaries affecting neighborhoods across the San Fernando Valley, including areas such as Sylmar and Toluca Lake in recent weeks.
City officials have acknowledged the uptick in activity. During a recent press conference, Karen Bass appeared alongside Jim McDonnell to outline the department’s response. Authorities say specialized units from the LAPD’s Metropolitan Division have been deployed to areas seeing the highest concentration of incidents, with increased patrols and a greater reliance on data-driven policing strategies.
Despite the recent string of break-ins, officials noted that overall property crime trends in Los Angeles have been declining. Still, incidents like these highlight the continued challenges law enforcement faces in tracking coordinated burglary activity across multiple neighborhoods in a short period of time.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify and locate the suspects.
