Residents in the quiet community of La Cañada Flintridge are on edge after a burglary on El Vago Drive may be connected to a growing string of break-ins across Los Angeles County.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the burglary occurred around 7:20 p.m. on May 2 in the 1200 block of El Vago Drive. Detectives are now investigating whether the incident is tied to several other recent burglaries that have targeted homes throughout the region.
The case gained additional attention after a local resident contacted KTLA, saying surveillance footage from the La Cañada burglary appeared to show the same suspects involved in a separate home invasion in Studio City. In that incident, a Good Samaritan who confronted the burglars was reportedly attacked with bear spray.
Law enforcement officials have not confirmed a connection between the incidents, but investigators are actively reviewing evidence as concerns grow among homeowners across Southern California.
LASD Capt. Ryan Vienna described the recent wave of burglaries as “unacceptable” and said additional deputies have been deployed to the La Cañada Flintridge area in response.
“I ask all members of the community to promptly report suspicious activity or crimes in progress, as well as cooperate with our investigators so we may apprehend those who would or have caused harm,” Vienna said.
Authorities have released few additional details as the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the burglary is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at (818) 236-4015.
The incident is part of a broader trend of residential burglaries impacting communities throughout Southern California. Just days earlier, four suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 in valuables from a home in Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
As these crimes continue to make headlines, law enforcement agencies are reminding residents to stay vigilant and take preventative measures to help protect their homes.
LASD shared several burglary prevention recommendations for homeowners, including:
Lock all doors and windows, even when home
Keep exterior lights on during nighttime hours
Utilize alarm systems and surveillance cameras if available
Avoid leaving valuables visible from outside the home
Collect mail and packages promptly
Report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately
While investigators work to determine whether these incidents are connected, many residents across Los Angeles County are paying closer attention to neighborhood activity and home security precautions.
