Elderly Woman Targeted in Northridge Home Invasion While Alone at Night

Northridge home invasion news headline

In a deeply unsettling incident in Northridge, an elderly woman was home alone when two intruders broke into her house late Thursday night. The crime occurred around 9:45 p.m. on the 8800 block of Newcastle Avenue in the San Fernando Valley, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Preliminary reports from Traffic News L.A. indicate that the woman noticed the intrusion in real time while monitoring her home’s security cameras. She reportedly saw two suspects entering the home through a back sliding door. Despite her awareness of the break-in, the suspects managed to flee the scene before authorities arrived.

Deputies confirmed signs of forced entry but could not immediately determine whether anything had been stolen. Fortunately, no physical harm came to the victim, and no injuries were reported. Still, the emotional impact of such an encounter—especially for a woman estimated to be around 90 years old and using a wheeled walker—is immeasurable.

Footage from the scene shows the woman outside her front door, speaking with deputies and supported by family and friends. The suspects remain at large, and no descriptions have been released at this time.

The case remains under active investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.

This incident is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities many residents—particularly seniors—face when alone at home. As authorities work to locate the perpetrators, community vigilance and support for vulnerable neighbors remain essential.
