Hollywood Hills Family Shaken After Masked Home Invasion While Children Were Inside

A quiet Hollywood Hills neighborhood was rattled after a terrifying home invasion unfolded while young children and their nanny were inside the residence.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded around 9:30 p.m. on May 8 to reports of a break-in at a home in the 2200 block of Sunset Plaza Drive, an upscale area tucked into the hills above Sunset Boulevard.
The family involved, who chose not to appear on camera, told KTLA that two masked suspects entered the home while their children and nanny were inside. The suspects were reportedly dressed in hoodies and face coverings when they made their way into the property.
The situation escalated when the homeowners returned from an errand and unexpectedly encountered the intruders inside their house. Moments later, the suspects fled the scene with a large amount of valuables. Investigators believe the burglars may have used a crowbar to force entry into the home, possibly leaving the tool behind as they escaped.
The father immediately contacted police, but according to the family, officers arrived approximately 15 minutes later — after the suspects had already disappeared.
Thankfully, no one inside the home was physically harmed during the incident. Still, the emotional impact on the family has been significant, especially considering the children and nanny were present during the break-in.
The crime comes amid growing concerns over a series of violent and high-profile residential burglaries targeting affluent Los Angeles neighborhoods. Just weeks earlier, another disturbing attack occurred nearby on Lookout Mountain Avenue near Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
In that case, 70-year-old Margaux Mirkin — identified as an heiress to the Budget Rent a Car fortune — was reportedly beaten, strangled, and robbed during a violent home invasion. Authorities said the suspects escaped with a substantial amount of cash and jewelry. Mirkin was hospitalized with injuries and later reported to be in stable condition.
As of now, no arrests have been made in either investigation.
LAPD detectives continue to investigate the Sunset Plaza Drive burglary and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-222-8477 or online through Crime Stoppers.
