Residents in Woodland Hills were rattled this week after a dramatic home invasion involving up to seven masked burglars.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident unfolded around 5 a.m. Thursday on the 22900 block of Calvert Street. Police say the suspects forced entry through a back door, wearing masks and gloves as they ransacked the property.
Dark security footage captured the group rushing out of the residence, carrying bags filled with stolen items. The burglars fled the scene in two cars before officers arrived.
Neighbors described the targeted property as a short-term rental, raising questions about whether it was specifically chosen by the suspects. Longtime resident Peggy, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 40 years, voiced her frustration, saying:
“It bothers me we have so many robbers, or crooks, whatever you want to call them, running around.”
The LAPD’s Homicide Division, with support from SWAT and Gang and Narcotics Division detectives, launched a coordinated investigation. Early Friday morning, officers executed a search warrant at a luxury home on Kling Street in North Hollywood. Multiple individuals were detained during the operation, though police have not confirmed how those arrests are directly tied to Thursday’s crime.
At one point, neighbors reported a possible kidnapping connected to the case, but police later clarified that no abduction had taken place.
No injuries were reported in the Woodland Hills invasion. However, the incident comes amid a troubling rise in violent break-ins across the San Fernando Valley this year.
In March, a family was zip-tied and shoved into a closet during a home invasion on MacFarlane Drive.
In April, three suspects were charged with murder after breaking into a home on De La Osa Street near Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
As of Friday evening, investigators have not released further details about the arrests or whether more suspects remain at large.
