An attempted home invasion in Tujunga early Wednesday morning was thwarted after a reportedly armed suspect was scared away by a family dog.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on January 21 near Memory Drive and Tujunga Canyon Boulevard. Home surveillance footage obtained by KTLA shows a man in a hoodie walking toward the residence while appearing to hold a knife in one hand and a gun in the other.

According to the homeowner, the suspect approached the front door and attempted to break in. The family’s dog, Ace — a gray and white pit bull or pit bull mix — began barking, prompting the suspect to flee before gaining entry.

The homeowner called 911, and the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed officers were dispatched to a report of an armed suspect attempting a break-in. However, police indicated there was no record of a formal report, and the family says officers did not arrive at the residence.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with a white beard, wearing a navy-blue sweater, jeans, and boots. It remains unclear whether the incident is under investigation.

The homeowner has since warned neighbors to remain alert in the area surrounding Tujunga Canyon Boulevard.
