Several suspects were detained early Sunday morning following an alleged burglary at a Woodland Hills home, though police say at least one additional suspect may still be outstanding.
The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 3:30 a.m. near Campo Road and Velicata Street, a residential area just south of the 101 Freeway and off Canoga Avenue. Details were initially limited, but Los Angeles Police Department officers responded after identifying suspicious activity tied to a reported home break-in.
According to preliminary information, officers detained three individuals at the scene while investigating a vehicle believed to be connected to the burglary. The SUV reportedly contained tools commonly associated with home break-ins. Video from the scene shows officers searching the vehicle as multiple suspects were led away in handcuffs.
The homeowner later confirmed that this was not the first encounter with the suspects that night. Earlier in the evening, while he was out to dinner, he reportedly saw the same individuals inside his home, ransacking the property. Hours later, the group allegedly returned—this time while the homeowner was back inside.
Police on proactive patrol in the area noticed a suspicious vehicle and attempted to investigate by shining a spotlight on it. Officers said the occupants reacted by attempting to flee, reversing the SUV and striking several parked cars. During the attempted escape, the vehicle nearly hit an officer.
Surveillance footage from a nearby home captured the chaotic moments as police pursued the suspects through the narrow neighborhood streets. Residents described the scene as alarming, with flashing red and blue lights and loud commotion breaking the quiet of the early morning hours.
“I heard a bunch of noise and saw a lot of red lights,” one nearby resident told local media. “I didn’t come outside—I just looked through the window because I was honestly a little scared.”
While three suspects were detained, authorities believe at least one additional suspect may have escaped. Reports from the scene suggest another vehicle could have been involved, though no further details were immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the full scope of the burglary attempt and identify any remaining suspects involved.
