Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating two violent incidents that occurred just hours apart in Calabasas and Westlake Village, raising concerns among residents in the typically quiet, affluent areas. As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not confirmed whether the same suspect was responsible for both crimes.
The first incident took place on January 21 at approximately 7:35 p.m. at Calabasas Commons, a popular shopping and dining destination located at 4799 Commons Way. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a woman was approached by a suspect described as a Black male, who pushed her to the ground and stole her Louis Vuitton purse before fleeing the scene.
While authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect was armed, the victim reported that the man told her he had a handgun during the encounter. Deputies responded to the scene and began canvassing the area, but the suspect was not located.
Roughly two hours later, at around 9:40 p.m., deputies were called to Westlake Village—about 10 miles from Calabasas—for a reported assault with a deadly weapon. In this second incident, a suspect matching a similar description allegedly pointed a gun at a woman during an attempted carjacking.
Officials said the suspect did not injure the victim and fled without stealing her vehicle. Deputies responded quickly, but once again, the suspect escaped before an arrest could be made.
At this time, investigators have not confirmed a connection between the two incidents, though the close timing, proximity, and similar suspect descriptions are being carefully reviewed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate both cases and has not released additional suspect details.
Residents in both communities are being urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and contact authorities with any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information related to either incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
