A late-night home invasion in Redlands ended with an armed intruder shot and arrested after a dramatic encounter with a homeowner, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday, January 15, at a residence in the 1500 block of Church Street. Redlands Police Department officers were dispatched to the area after receiving reports of shots fired.
Investigators say the homeowner had just returned to his house when he realized someone was inside. After arming himself with a handgun, the homeowner began checking the residence. At some point, he came face-to-face with the intruder, who allegedly pointed a shotgun at him.
Fearing for his life, the homeowner fired at least one shot. He then immediately left the residence and called 911, police said.
Officers arrived on scene, cleared the home, and discovered a trail of blood leading to the backyard. There, they found the suspect suffering from a single gunshot wound. Police recovered a shotgun that they believe the suspect located inside the home, along with property belonging to the homeowner.
The suspect was identified as Daniel Torres Carrion, 52, of Redlands. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, later released, and booked into West Valley Detention Center. Carrion is being held on $300,000 bail.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information related to this incident or other suspicious activity in the area to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681, ext. 1. Non-emergency crimes can also be reported online through the department’s CopLogic system or via the City of Redlands 311 mobile app.
Incidents like this serve as a sobering reminder of how quickly a routine evening can turn into a life-threatening situation, underscoring the importance of awareness, preparedness, and timely communication with law enforcement.
