A terrifying home invasion unfolded in Redondo Beach early Sunday morning when two residents were tied up with zip-ties and held for hours during a burglary, according to police reports.
The incident began around 5:52 a.m. on the 1900 block of Mathews Avenue. Redondo Beach police initially responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a firearm inside a vehicle on a residential street. Though the caller disconnected before giving a location, officers were able to trace the phone to the area where the burglary was taking place.
When police canvassed the neighborhood, they discovered two residents had been restrained inside their home during the break-in. The victims, whose names were not released, were tied up for what investigators described as “an extended period of time.” Witness accounts suggest the ordeal lasted a little over two hours.
Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics from the Redondo Beach Fire Department treated them at the scene, and one was transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
The suspects fled the residence before officers arrived, but police pursued and successfully arrested them shortly afterward. Authorities identified the suspects as Jesus Velez, 31, of Rochester, New York, and Draven Luna, 21, of Queens, New York. Both were booked at the Redondo Beach jail on multiple charges, including robbery, burglary, and kidnapping, with bail set at $100,000 each.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances and motives behind the crime but have confirmed they do not believe additional suspects are involved. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the community.
